How does Boater101 work?

Boater101 uses a variety of multi-media tools to help you learn everything you need to know about safe boating practices. You sign up, complete the course at your own pace, take the test, and print your completion certificate upon passing the exam.

How much does Boater101 cost?

Boater101 costs $15 if you choose to complete the course online. If you take the course in a dealership, it will cost $25. It's a bit more in a dealership setting because you'll receive extra materials, like your own Boater101 course manual (which online students can print from home). If you do not pass the Boater101 certification exam and need to take the Boater101 exam more than once, you will be required to pay $15 each time you take the test.

How long does Boater101 take to finish?

The great thing about taking Boater101 online is that you are allowed to set your own pace. In order to be NASBLA-certified, Marine University is required to provide you with eight great hours of boating instruction. But that doesn't mean you have to do it all at once. In fact, you have up to six months to complete the course. You can proceed through the material at your desired speed, save your spot inside the course, and return as many or as few times as you wish before taking the exam. Once you begin to take the test, however, you will be required to complete the entire test in one session. We recommend that you allow yourself approximately 45 minutes to complete the 75-question test. If you leave your computer and your internet connection times out, your test information will not be saved and you will have to start over in your session.

How will Boater101 help me qualify for an insurance discount?

The majority of insurance providers do award safe-boater discounts (typically around 10 percent) to those boaters who have completed a NASBLA-approved boating safety education course, such as Boater101 by Marine University. The process is simple: Successfully complete the course, print out your certificate, and submit this proof of completion to your insurance provider. For more specifics, contact your provider to learn more about available discounts.

Is Boater101 approved for my state?

This approval allows graduates to be eligible for insurance discounts in all 50 states and may also be recognized by your state as a course meeting mandatory boater education laws.
