Captain

Charter Marketing/Planning
  • Maintain relationship with key charter brokers and field calls, referring to boat’s calendar
  • Make sure brokers get the information they need to sell charters
  • Plan and execute marketing strategy for vessel (broker shows, ads, brochure, etc.)
  • Strive to secure charters
Crew Management
  • Motivate crew to work well in tough conditions/personalities
  • Manage and delegate projects on a prioritized basis
  • Follow up on completed projects to make sure done properly
  • Keep track of all personnel issues
  • Maintaining boats calendar (scheduled owner use, dates available for charter, yard periods, time off for crew/Captain, maintenance)
  • Make sure boat is tension free and no crew are unprofessional in any way
  • Point out areas where crew can improve vessel appearance/operation/safety
Financial Accounting
  • Checking/credit card/cash to be delivered to owner and eventually to accountant; coding all expenses for accountants organizational purposes
  • Making sure items purchased are bought at best possible price
  • Working with Boatyard scheduling work to be performed
  • Getting quotes on items that are not normal maintenance items (upgrades)
  • Paying laborers that are part time and keeping them to a minimum (tight turn around and specialized work usually require day workers)
  • Delegating financial accounting to Chef/Stew for their departments
Inventory Control
  • Stay on top of items used so we do not run out of necessary items
  • Maintain minimum level of spares so we do not over-buy items

Navigation
  • Operate vessel safely with crew assistance (watches etc.)
  • Always take safest possible route available, waiting for “weather window” if necessary
  • All Trip planning/dockage for owner or charterer
  • Departure and arrival times planned depending on tides/Sun/lack of Sun
  • Purchasing navigation gear as necessary for trips (keep yacht inventory current)
Vessel Maintenance
  • To the highest standard keeping in sync with owners priorities
  • Make sure interior items are done according to job descriptions
  • Point out areas where crew can improve appearance/operation/safety
  • Perform Engineering duties associated with vessel of this size, with assistance from Mate/Chef if necessary and possible
