About Boater101
Boater101 is approved by the National Association of State Boating Law
Administrators, Inc. (NASBLA). NASBLA coordinates approval of state and private
boating education programs, promotes uniform boating regulations through the
adoption of model acts and policies, develops methods to improve the nation’s
boating accident database, fosters cooperation between the U.S. Coast Guard and
the states, and strives for the general advancement of boating safety.

Instructor Qualifications
In accordance with CEERI’s organization policy, Instructors certified to teach
the Boater101 course must meet the following qualifications:

Each Instructor shall have knowledge of boating safety and the current laws and
regulations pertaining to the operation of vessels, as well as teaching skills
in the area of boating safety.

Each Instructor must have the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for the
transmittal of the information necessary to implant knowledge of boating safety
in students. The following skills, knowledge, and abilities are considered
essential for this purpose:

Instructor/student communication

Logical thinking
-
Human relations and human diversity
-
Lesson planning
-
Teaching methods
-
Instructional aids
-
Handicaps to learning
-
Evaluation of student performance
Becoming a Certified Boater101 Instructor
In order to become a Boater101 Instructor, you will need to complete the
Instructor registration, take the Boater101 Course, and pay a non-refundable
application fee of $50.00.
Once we have received notification of your completion of the course, we will
review your submitted information and notify you within one business week
letting you know if you have been approved to become an Instructor. If we
determine that you do not have sufficient boating knowledge to teach Boater101,
we will require you to educate yourself using the resources we provide within
the Instructor Tools portion of this Web Site prior to teaching the course.
Instructor Re-Certification
Once you have become an approved Boater101 Instructor, you will be required to
be re-certified annually. You will be sent two emails reminding you to complete
your annual re-certification; one with three months remaining of your
certification and the final reminder with one month remaining of your
certification. After 12 months, if you have not undergone re-certification,
your account will be closed and you will have to go through the initial
certification process again before you can be re-activated.
In order to be re-certified, you will have to log on to the Boater101 Web Site
and answer a survey detailing who you have taught and how frequently you have
taught the Boater101 Course in addition to providing us with suggestions on how
to improve the Course material. You will not be required to pay any additional
funds. Upon the completion of this survey, your registration will be renewed
for an additional year.
