The first step towards your dream job is preparing your resume. Don’t count on
getting an interview if you prepare a resume that is long or difficult to read.
Follow these tips to make your resume the best it can be.
-
Try to keep your resume to one page.
-
Sell yourself but make sure you can perform at the level you say you can. Don’t
say you are proficient in a computer program if you have only used it once.
-
Make sure you use a font that is large and easy to read. If your resume is too
difficult to decipher, you can count on it going in the trash before the
recruiter or your “would be” employer gets to the second line.
-
Every resume must have your contact information, education, skills and work
experience.
-
Be concise yet informative. A resume is not the place to be excessively wordy.
It should be an overview of your qualifications and past work experience.
-
Be sure to describe your tasks at each of your previous positions. It is
important to note supervisory experience or anything that represents increased
responsibility.
-
Include anything that shows you have the experience for the job you want. If
you volunteered somewhere and acquired skills that could help you perform well
at the job you are applying for, include the position on your resume.
