Boater101 is an educational program that combines a variety of multimedia
tools to promote water safety, boating education, environmental awareness and
careers within the marine industry. The program utilizes an online Boating
Safety Course in conjunction with an Instructional T.V. series and course
manual to educate participants.
|
| Research gathered by the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF) and
the National Marine Manufactures Association (NMMA) clearly demonstrates that a
positive boating and fishing experience will lead children to participate in
boating and fishing now and as adults. CEERI’s solution is to bring the marine
industry together to develop and provide an educational program that will
benefit and help grow our industry.
|
Currently, Florida’s youth benefit directly from the Boater101 Program.
Students learn about safe boating and are exposed to environmental concerns as
well as potential career opportunities. Students receive a state certification
card upon successful completion of the course. Adults who participate in the Boater101
Program also directly benefit through increased boating knowledge. Indirectly,
all boaters benefit by the education of the next generation of boaters,
decreasing the potential for boating accidents and fatalities. With the
expansion of the Boater101 program, both adults and youth around the
nation will receive these same benefits.
Other Groups:
-
Existing and potential boat owners
-
Individuals seeking to enhance their knowledge and understanding of boating or
the marine industry
- Leaders and representatives within the marine industry
- State
governments who desire an interactive program of boating safety and
environmental training
|
| This program is unique from other safety programs in that it primarily focuses
on youth, targeting the age group that is most receptive for becoming current
and future boaters and waterway users. The Boater101 Program is the only
boating safety program that is a part of Florida’s Public School science
curriculum. With the launch of the Boater101 Web Site, the program will
be able to partner with other states and school systems so that they too can
benefit from state-specific course information.
|
| Boater101 is funded by a variety of marine industry sponsors who share
the goal of educating America’s next generation of boaters. Founding Sponsors
include the, Marine Industries Association of South Florida, Formula, Genmar,
Volvo Penta, Brunswick Corporation and EnviroCare, Inc. There are many other
contributors such as Ashland Chemical (Bronze Level), KeyBank USA (Bronze
Level) and INAMAR (Bronze Level). Also, CEERI, Inc. has received grants from
the OMC Foundation and The Brunswick Public Foundation, Inc. As Boater101
expands its programming, it expects to increase revenue to facilitate growth.
|
| Boater101 will continue to create partnerships around the nation with
boating law administrators, school systems, boat dealers and manufacturers to
facilitate the expansion of the program to all interested states. As we
establish our position as educators we hope to attract a sponsorship outside
the marine industry and choose those that complement our growth and
development. |
